In this paper an anti-windup scheme is proposed for two robust feedforward/feedback control laws: one linear and the other nonlinear. Since the control laws present an observer-based structure, the anti-windup scheme results in a natural manner by taking into account the actuator constraints. It is shown that the anti-windup scheme improves the performance of the control laws. The resulting strategies are implemented in an anaerobic digester for wastewater treatment. Performance is illustrated by numerical simulations. © 2003 IF AC.
