abstract
Objective: Understand the psychosocial meanings and expectations of women breast cancer survivors of treatment. Methods: During 2018-2020, a phenomenological study was carried out in which twelve women were interviewed in depth. Results: It was identified that this experience profoundly affects them during diagnosis, treatment and in later stages; reconfiguring the way they perceive their body, couple and / or family relationships, lifestyle and self-concept. Women perceive social pressures related to the ways of coping with the disease, they pretend to be strong in the public sphere and they weaken in intimacy. Main conclusion: Women experience treatment based on what gender dogmas dictate and in a patriarchal context where the identity of mother ignores that of person. Going through treatment implies reconfiguring their personality and social relationships. © 2021, Fundacion Index. All rights reserved.
