abstract
The ionic exchange of some metallic ions in aqueous solutions onto four zeolitic mineral samples which were named as AK, Crem, TAM-1 and TAM-2 was investigated. These samples are constituted mainly of natural zeolite known as clinoptilolite. Firstly, the ion exchange of As(III), Fe(II), Hg(II) and Cr(VI) was investigated and it was found that these ions were exchanged very slightly on these samples of zeolites. Percentage removals for the metallic ions of Cr(III), Pb(II), Cd(II) and Zn(II) were reported varying from 3.82 to 74.5%25 and it was concluded that these ions are more exchangable than the other ions. The zeolite exchange capacities for the Pb(II) and Cd(II) ions decrease in the following order: TAM-2 > TAM-1 > Crem > AK; for the Zn(II) ions: TAM- 1 > TAM-2 ≈ Crem > AK; and for the Cr(III) ions: Crem > TAM-1 ≈ TAM-2 > AK.
