abstract
Active Filter is a relatively new concept that can potentially correct network distortion caused by power electronics loads. The voltage waveform in the electrical transmission/distribution systems is modified from the original sinusoid form by various reasons. Fortuitous causes like failures in the electrical lines, atmospheric discharges or anomalous operation of the load. Normal operation of certain types of loads produces deviations from the ideal situation also. Linear loads produce spikes and current peaks due to the turn on and off. A survey of power quality is presented and it is analyzed the equipment to increase the power quality, whit specially attention on the several topologies of Active Filters for harmonic compensation.
