Actinomycetoma is a chronic disease of the skin and subcutaneous tissues, it has a very low evolution and for this reason it is not very incapacitating during the first months or years after their presentation, this causes the diagnosis and treatment to be in disadvantage for the patient and leads to the progression of the disease. An aditional problem is the fact that the incidence of this pathology in our country is low and it is found preferably in country workers population; for this reason, the present bibliographic review has the main aim of describing the main carachteristics of this disease, the diagnosis and treatment strategies as well as the experimental evidences that allow its study in animal models.
