The hydrocyclone problem has been a challenging task for the last 30 years. In the 80's and 90's Computational Fluid Dynamics solution to this problem began to appear. These were unsuccessful due to over simplification. In the past 3 dimensional solution with κ-∈ model and Reynolds Stress Model have been published. In this paper RSM and κ-∈ models are compared with velocity profiles measured in 75 mm and 250 mm diameter hydrocyclones. It is shown that results are not satisfactory with RSM or κ-∈ and that a model called Large Eddy Simulation is needed to describe velocity profile evolution and size classification.
