A simple digital PWM strategy for application in multilevel inverters is proposed. The control signals and died time for the inverters are obtained by a simple method based on phase shifting. This method shows that is possible to generate many switching patterns as from a single reference, a signal sinusoidal in this case, compared with a high frequency carrier. Useful advantages of using this strategy are employing only one carrier and ease implementation and generating many output PWM signals. This strategy is only valid for inverters that can be considered as an association of 2-level cells. Simulations, analysis and experimental results are included. Besides a cascaded multilevel inverter with modules voltage source was built. © 2004 IEEE.
