Evaluation, using EIS, of anticorrosive paints pigmented with zinc phosphate Review uri icon

abstract

  • In searching for alternatives to the traditional toxic pigments, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) was used to study the influence of the zinc phosphate content and of the pigment volume concentration (PVC) to critical pigment volume concentration (CPVC) ratio on the anticorrosive properties of two series of vinyl primers. Salt spray, humidity chamber and adhesion tests were also carried out. Results from EIS and from traditional laboratory tests showed that paints containing 25%25 of zinc phosphate by weight and PVC/CPVC (Λ) ratio of 0.8-0.9 gave the best anticorrosive performance. In general, for these vinyl primers, the anti-corrosive properties have not been affected greatly by the Λ ratios.
