abstract

  • Human capital is commonly used the economic development research area. This term refers to the “level of education” in a specific sector of the population. As well, is measured based on the people%27s knowledge acquired in the elementary school, higher education or by experiences acquired across the life. That means, the acquired skills will produce an economic value that will have an impact on the development and growth of the region through the trades or work that it determines. An analysis of the economic variables by developing a model of structural equations was used in this study. The model is based on partial least squares, which allowed to evaluate the model in two fundamental aspects: first, it allowed to analyze the economic development and second, it allowed to formulate an analysis on the aspect of migration. Therefore, this methodology allowed to test and estimate the causal relationships between variables such as Education and Health regarding economic development and migration in the study area. This research aims to prove that the relationships of some social condition variables influence in the economic development of a given region. The study focuses on the Central Area of the State of San Luis Potosí in Mexico. Demographic data of various localities belonging to the municipalities of the Potosí highlands were evaluated. The results indicate that an important problem linked to the scarcity of human capital in this region is migration, which in turn has effects on economic and development growth. This study was carried out with demographic data of the Altiplano region of the State of San Luis Potosí, Mexico at the municipal level. © 2019 Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Facultad de Contaduría y Administración.
