abstract
Background. One of the major risks of osteonecrosis of the jaw is linked to the use of bisphosphonate, medica - tions indicated in osteoporosis, breast cancer, and multi - ple myeloma, among others. Objective. To present and inform the importance of the integral dental management and prevention of a patient with osteoporosis and hypothyroidism before the pharmacological treatment with bisphosphonate. Method. The integral dental treatment was based on clinical and radiographic planning, based on models of articulated studies and diagnostic waxing. Conducting a medical consultation and authorization by the doctor and patient, and after a signed informed consent, restorative treatment began prior to treatment with antiresorptive drugs. Conclusion. A patient with osteoporosis and another pathology associated with it, requires an adequate assessment and a comprehensive dental treatment before considering medical treatment with bisphosphonate. © 2018 CIC Edizioni Internazionali s.r.l.
