This paper presents an open circuit IGBT fault diagnosis scheme for a Three-Phase PWM Rectifier. Due to the nature of the system under study, there is a need to operate the system under the influence of a closed-loop control system, which represents a challenge for the diagnostic stage. In this work, a passivity based control scheme is employed as the nominal control strategy. The control laws have been synthesized in the synchronous reference frame (dq). This study proposes the tracking errors as residual signals. Then, a phase portrait provides a qualitative approach for the fault isolation stage. Simulation results are shown to validate the ideas presented in this paper. © 2015 IEEE.
