Preliminary validation of the supports intensity scale sis in Chile [Validación Preliminar De La Escala De Intensidad De Apoyos Sis En Chile] Article uri icon

abstract

  • This paper presents the validation process conducted with the Supports Intensity Scale (sis, developed by the American Association of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (aaidd), with Chilean people with intellectual disabilities. A total of 285 people aged 18 and over with intellectual disabilities were assessed. The internal consistency was examined (using Cronbach%27s alpha and split-half procedures), and inter-rater reliability were examined. Construct validity was analyzed by the association of scores with age, the subscales inter-correlations and their association to the level of intellectual disability. Discriminant validity was tested by establishing the discriminative power of the scores for different groups of support needs. The results support the usefulness of the scale and are highly consistent with validation studies conducted in other countries.
