  • The onset of magnetism of small VN clusters is studied by using a d-band Hubbard like Hamiltonian in the unrestricted Hartree-Fock approximation. We determine the local moments, magnetic order and average magnetization as a function of the intraatomic exchange integral J. Different structures are considered and charge transfer effects are discussed. We found that the magnetic behavior of small clusters is very different from the bulk behavior. For the considered clusters, two different magnetic configurations are obtained. The role of sp-electrons and spd-hybridization on the magnetic properties is also discussed. © 1993.
