Interplay of surface magnetism and surface segregation near Tc in NixCu1-x alloys Article uri icon

abstract

  • The interplay between surface magnetization and segregation in binary alloys with one magnetic component is studied. It is a mean field model in which the local magnetic moment on the ferromagnetic atoms is determined self-consistently by the local environment and the contributions to the internal energy are chemical and magnetic. We applied the model to dilute CuNi alloys and we find that magnetism might reverse the segregation at low temperatures. © 1983.
