abstract
An operative definition of the professional identity of Library Science is presented, together with an exposition of the general view on teaching of this discipline at undergraduate level in Mexico. The aspects undertaken were: name of the degree; graduate profile; academic areas, and the subjects which have comprised the program. The paper concludes by calling for a collective effort to standardize and unify the principles and foundations underlying the discipline in order to achieve a true identity for the Library Science profession in Mexico.
