ZnS and ZnS:Mn nanoparticles and (ZnS:Mn)_CdS core-shell nanoparticles were synthesized by a chemical precipitation method, this method is simpler than previously reported methods for the same sort of nanoparticles. The nanoparticles obtained were characterized by XRD and spectroscopy techniques (fluorescence and UV-vis absorption). The core-shell nanoparticles present an improved fluorescence signal over ZnS and ZnS:Mn nanoparticles at 580 nm. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
