  • A hard sphere model of chemical reaction is extended to allow for both a change of mass and smooth tail potential upon reaction as well as the dependence of the threshold for reaction on the proximity of other bodies. With this extended model we study the slow reaction limit for condensed media and obtain generalized rate coefficients which may show marked deviation from Enskog behavior when the activation barrier height depends strongly on the presence of other particles. A variety of solvent and homogeneous catalysis or inhibition and ionic strength effects are studied. © 1981 American Institute of Physics.
