The oxidation of several fluoroanilines with potassium ferricyanide and potassium hydroxide is described. In this oxidation, the major products are fluoroazobenzenes. In the case of 2-fluoro-substituted anilines, heterocyclic fluorophenazines were obtained in low to moderate yields. The optimal conditions for the reaction and the mechanism are presented. © 2004 NRC Canada.
