The magnetic properties at the surface of 3D transition metals are studied within the Hubbard Hamiltonian. The electronic structure is solved by means of the cluster Bethe lattice approximation and the size of the surface magnetic moment and the surface charge are determined self-consistently. The theory is applied to Fe, Co and Ni and the results are compared to existing data. © 1982.
