abstract
The aim of this study was to assess compliance with the management program of the Sierra del Abra Tanchipa Biosphere Reserve in the state of San Luis Potosi. This involved both quantitative and qualitative analysis of the program, based on the social participation of local residents. Compliance with the 190 actions in the program was 48 percent, while the attention to subprograms reached 79 percent. Locals acknowledge the effectiveness of various projects but also the shortcomings that prevent adequate management of the Reserve. Negative perceptions are mainly linked to insufficient monitoring and the poaching of species.
