abstract
Objective: Determine the prevention of catheter-associated urinary tract infections in hospitalized patients Methods: Narrative bibliographic review, with search-es in the databases: SpringerLink, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, PubMed, Virtual Health Library, CINHAL and Cuiden, using the descriptors "Prevention", "Urinary infec-tions", "Urinary catheterization", “Patient” and “Hospitalization”. The sample in-cluded 18 manuscripts. Results: Among the forms of prevention used, sterile ele-ments and materials, procedures before bladder catheterization, procedures after bladder catheterization, and routine care were identified. Conclusions: Prevention of infections due to bladder catheterization involves the use of measures such as sterile gloves, latex-coated catheters, hand hygiene, periurethral cleaning, and the use of antiseptics. This interprofessional strategy is essential to minimize risks and ensure patient safety.
