In this work we’ll discuss the cinematic representation of women and madness. To get so, we see through Buñuel’s and Egger’s perspective since their films recount the breakdown of their protagonists´ psyches. We expose woman transition from the idealization as a weak, delicate and virginal being to an evil, demonic, boundless and highly sexualized entity. In our inquiry we compare both movies with the purpose of scrutinize how both directors have a critical attitude towards catholic and puritan religiosity, nevertheless they don’t offer any other alternative but pessimism.
