abstract

  • Objective: Analyze and evaluate the usefulness of Elizabeth Lenz%27s midrange theory of unpleasant symptoms. Methodology: The criteria proposed by Fawcett were used, addressing for analysis the scope, context and content of the theory, as well as for its evaluation the significance, internal consistency, parsimony, testability, empirical adequacy and pragmatic adequacy were considered. Results: It was found that the theory has a solid internal consistency, with a parsimonious construction in its propositions and well-founded concepts. It has also been used in various studies, demonstrating its applicability and pragmatism. Conclusions: The theory is useful, in addition to being applicable in different populations, different moments and various life situations, also considering the importance of the possibility of its use as a theoretical reference for nursing and its research.
