Potential toxicity and bioavailability of ENMs and their products in plant tissues Chapter uri icon

abstract

  • With the increase of nanotechnology applications in all the industries, the emission of engineering nanomaterials (ENMs) has increased in the environment. Understanding the relationship between ENMs and plants has become very important, mainly because plants are organisms involved in all environmental spheres. This fact makes them a potential route of exposure to ENMs and their subsequent transfer to higher organisms through the food chain. For this reason, the objective of this chapter is to contribute to current knowledge about the phytotoxicity, transformations, and bioavailability of ENMs and their products in plants. This information will provide us with sufficient data to better understand the interactions between plants and ENMs and their implications for environment and human health.
