El Festival Cultural Cerro de San Pedro (México): protesta y puesta en valor del patrimonio a partir del conflicto minero-ciudadano [The Cerro de San Pedro Cultural Festival (Mexico) : protest and heritage value of the heritage based on the mining-citizen conflict] Article uri icon

abstract

  • Tourism and culture revitalize environments through the dissemination and promotion of heritage in cultural events. Such is the case of the Cerro de San Pedro Cultural Festival, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The event began as a forum to protest cultural alienation, the dispossession of historical memory and the loss of identity and cultural landscape due to mining. The objective is to reflect on the use of heritage as a vehicle for politicization, and the creation of the cultural festival as a protest mechanism while valuing heritage. The methodology includes a review of the literature and the application of surveys to the attendees. The results show the loss of the cultural significance that gave rise to the festival, a diversified tourist offer and a strong use of heritage that comes in low sustainability as it is only a contact zone.
