Use and Manufacture of Biopesticides and Biofertilizers in Latin America Chapter uri icon

abstract

  • This chapter contains evidence about the problems of pesticides and fertilizers in Latin America, as well as current technological developments related to the manufacture and use of biopesticides and biofertilizers and presents a case study carried out in the state of San Luis Potosí, Mexico. The information will be useful to provide some strategies that promote the manufacture and use of these products toward sustainable agriculture in Latin America. The synthesis of the sophisticated bioproducts needs to be environmentally-friendly, and requires biotechnological interventions where a wide range of microbial and plant biomolecules are used to attack several threats. Advances in current metabolomics and proteomics research have shown that abiotic factors related to osmotic processes such as salinity and drought are the main stress situations that affect agricultural crops and cause crop loss around the world.
