abstract
Voltage source PWM inverters are widely used in the energy market but also in the industry as a motor drives. In particular, multilevel inverters allows to improve the performance of those power systems regarding power quality and blocking voltage. Classical multilevel topologies which have been well studied and are commercially available can be classified as: neutral point clamped, flying capacitor and cascaded multilevel inverters. Among these, cascade multilevel inverters provide some advantages like modularity and power distribution losses. In this paper, the Single-Phase T-type cascade multilevel inverter is studied. The operating states are derive and different pulse width modulation strategies are proposed in order to evaluate the performance of the inverter. The proposed strategies are evaluated by means of numerical simulations. A comparative evaluation considering harmonic distortion and efficiency is performed. © 2021 IEEE.
