abstract

  • This research proposes criteria to develop a territorial management scheme based on the tourism activity of the biodiverse state of San Luis Potosi, a federal entity located in the central portion of the Mexican Republic. The study is based on a sustainable perspective, which will allow a detailed and thorough diagnosis of the current behavior and the proposal of alternatives for economic diversification for the local population by undertaking environmentally sustainable tourism projects. The first part presents a theoretical and conceptual framework and background information regarding the ways in which the sector has been managed in the state, characterized by a discontinuity in the public action with respect to the six-year policies. Subsequently, a detailed inventory of the tourist resources and attractions in the state is presented. They are differentiated by the geographic attributes that individualize them through the analysis of cartographic and documentary materials researched in official sources, as well as field work in the four regions of the state. Next, a classification of the attractions examined is presented based on the qualities they offer for efficient decision-making. Finally, guidelines are proposed for an operation model that will contribute to the tourism management of the Potosi territory in accordance with the characteristics detected. © 2021 Instituto Universitario de Investigaciones Turisticas.
