Runoff coefficients using a quickbird image for mapping flood hazard in a tropical coastal city, Campeche, Mexico Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The land cover changes from tropical forest to urban land use, increase, in Campeche City, Mexico, the flood hazard. In order to explain the spatial hazard degrees, in this paper applied the land unit concept and the relationship between, the rainfall-infiltration-runoff rates, the land cover and the geomorphologie susceptibility. The probably hydrological balance behavior was evaluated establishing the runoff coefficients and the relationship with the land cover. To detect different types of impervious surfaces was used a multispectral Quickbird image. At the same time, the historical records of ordinary and extraordinary floods allow explain the recurrence interval of the most significant hydrometeorological events. © 2007 IEEE.
