A popular method for modeling and simulating diffuse multipath wireless channels as tapped-delay line filters is studied in this paper with the aim of identifying the problems that affect its performance. To illustrate how this method behaves, the particular case of modeling channels with exponential-decay power-delay profiles is analyzed in detail; to that end, closed-form expressions of the actual values of important statistical quantities are derived for the resultant channel models. Those expressions can be employed to accurately model such type of channels and to develop precise computer simulators for them. © 2005 IEEE.
