Organic functionalization of solution-phase exfoliated graphene Chapter uri icon

abstract

  • Graphene has received increasing attention due to its unique physicochemical properties. The ability to control the size and dispersion of graphene sheets in a variety of organic solvents and water is probably the most essential technological challenge in the future of this exciting material. In this work we describe the recent efforts on the chemical functionalization of graphene produced by solution-phase exfoliation of pristine graphite. This approach could lead to new materials with well-defined properties and to the production of graphene in large-scale quantities. © 2012, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
