A systematic study of the magnetic properties associated to a large number of geometrical structures of small clusters is presented. Within the framework of Fridel%27s model we calculated the cluster average magnetic moment (μ̄N) of various polyhedra as a function of the number of atoms N in nickel aggregates. By comparing our results with the experimental estimations of μ̄N as a function of size we arrive at a proposal of the geometrical structures in the range of 5 ≤ N ≤ 26. © 1998 El-sevier Science Ltd.
