The magnetic phase transitions occuring in layered structures, sandwiches and superlattices, are studied within Ising model. The spin- 1 2 Hamiltonian is solved in the mean field approximation. We consider systems formed by a finite and infinite number of slabs of two magnetic materials. Analytic expressions for the Curie temperature as a function of the Hamiltonian parameters and the thickness of the slabs are given. Results for the Curie temperature as a function of slab thickness and coupling constants are presented. Comparison between the Curie temperature in sandwiches and superlattices are discussed. © 1992.
