  • Objective: Analyze the sexual behavior of University students and the influence of gender in the characterization of the referred behavior. Material and methods: Transverse, descriptive and correlational study which was carried out from January to June 2009. Stratified probabistical sample of 250 students from five bachelor degree programs. Application of an instrument created on purpose, validated by experts with a proven reliability of.78 using Cronbach Alpha. Descriptive statistical s and inferential using SPSS 17.0. Results: 56.6%25 of the population referred having an active sex life, with greater exercise in men (x2 = 13. 272 p =. 01). Men more than women and with a significant difference, men spoke of having sex with more than one person in a same period of time (Tb =. 730 p =. 000), having casual sexual encounters (Tb =. 294 p =. 000). The use of the condom refers as usual, more among men (86.8 %25) in women (50 %25) (V=.377 p =. 002). Conclusions: Risky behavior was identified among men as among women in both cases closely linked to social representations of gender. © 2011 Fundación Index.
