abstract
The present communication traces the general schema of the immunopathogenic mechanisms involved in various rheumatic diseases. The interrelationship existing among genetically predisposing, environmental and individual factors involved in the initiation and development of rheumatic disease is presented. It is shown that bacteria as well as viruses have been closely related to the development of rheumatic conditions. Descriptions are detailed of immunopathologic aspects of conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosis, dermatomyositis and rheumatoid arthritis.
