Evaluation of the Fish Invasiveness Scoring Kit (FISK v2) for pleco fish or devil fish Chapter uri icon

abstract

  • FISK v2 is a fish invasiveness detection tool used in this chapter to evaluate the potential risk of invasion of the pleco fish or devil fish (family Loricariidae) introduced into the aquatic systems of the Huasteca Zone of the State of San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The evaluation of invasiveness through FISK consists of a questionnaire of 49 questions whose answers were supported by information consulted from various bibliographic sources, generated from interviews in the area of study, and journalistic notes. The result determined by the FISK test is a score of 37 and a level of certainty of 0.88. According to the calibration of the FISK tests carried out by different authors, this study’s devil fishes are considered to be a species with a very high risk of invasion in this region because they present invasive characteristics. This study considers the basis to determine the risk of invasion of this type of fish in regions with similar characteristics prone to the invasion of this species. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.
