Análisis comparativo del contenido lignocelulósico en residuos agroindustriales de Saccharum officinarum L. para uso potencial como material adsorbente Chapter uri icon

abstract

  • Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) is the main crop in Mexico with an industrialized area of 789996 hectares, according to data from the 2020/2021 harvest (Conadesuca, 2021). The production and industrialization of this grass generates various residues, including the sugarcane tip or head. Several studies show that residues with a high lignocellulosic content are a valuable alternative for the production of low-cost adsorbent materials. The lignocellulosic content of sugarcane tip residues samples of the Mex 681345 variety coming from a plantation during the 2021-2022 harvest, was analyzed. The analyses were performed in triplicate to obtain percentages of extractable in organic solvents and hot water, using the TAPPI T-264-cm-97 and TAPPI T-207-cm-99 standards. To determine lignin and cellulose, TAPPI T-222-om-02 and the Kurschner-Hoffer method were used. The ASTM D1104-77 method was used for holocellulose and hemicellulose. The analyzed residues contained 18.41%25 lignin, 30.69%25 hemicellulose and 58.66%25 cellulose. These results were compared with other studies conducted on agricultural residues from Saccharum officinarum L., which have been used as adsorbent materials,
